Understanding the problem
A damp patch is a symptom, not a diagnosis
Tell us when it appears, whether it changes after rain and what has already been tried. That history matters as much as the visible stain.
Penetrating damp
Adjacent ground, planters, façades and roof details can let water into the wall. The visible patch may be away from the entry point.
Condensation and mould
Cold surfaces and moisture in the indoor air can contribute. Painting over a patch does not establish whether condensation, a leak or both are involved.
Leaks from installations
A localised patch may come from plumbing. If specialist pipe testing is needed, that is a separate check rather than an assumed part of the visit.

Comparative readings, checked against the building
We compare points and heights on similar materials and look at accessible surroundings, joints and previous repairs. A meter reading alone does not prove rising damp.

Before arranging repairs
Is this a full building survey?
No. It is a focused visit for damp and waterproofing issues. A structural survey, purchase survey or expert report needs a separately agreed professional scope.
Can you decide from photos?
Photos help us assess whether the case fits. Several possible causes usually require inspection and comparison on site.
Will new plaster stop the damp?
Only repairing the finish may hide the symptom. The water source, drying conditions and compatible repair of the substrate need to be considered together.
